Soundbrush Records is releasing Roger’s his fifth Brazilian-themed release, the double-CD Journey to Rio. On it, Roger brings his unique spin to Brazilian jazz. All the compositions are his own – and to ensure the album’s authentic feel, he recorded them in Rio with a band comprising some of the country’s finest native musicians. His frequent musical partner, drummer Paulo Braga, has played with Elis Regina, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and Milton Nascimento. Acoustic bassist Sérgio Barrozo is a veteran of the bossa nova era; electric bassist Ney Conceição worked for years with João Bosco. Trombonist Gilmar Ferreira leads the Rio-based samba group Banda de Gafieira. Also featured are reed virtuoso Marcelo Martins; the celebrated guitarist Leonardo Amuedo; Bahia-born percussionist Marco Lobo; and the award-winning drummer Rafael Barata.
